Maptivism Tactic Description
First put together during the Ben Ali Regime in 2006, the Tunisian Prison Map was an online database detailing the names and locations of political prisoners in Tunisia. Because the regime had been preventing public access of prison locations, prison staff information, names of prisoners, and the numbers of political prisoners in the country were all unavailable. The map contained: An approximate listing of Tunisian prisons, video/audio of Tunisian political prisoners, photos of individual cases, and searchable functions for specific cases. This provided activists and interested parties the necessary information to demand transparency from the Ben Ali regime and gave friends and family members of protesters knowledge of where they were located.
